NEW TURF FIELDS COMING TO SILVER STREET PARK
The City of New Albany is continuing its investment in local parks and recreation with the addition of new turf fields at Silver Street Park. The improvements will provide athletes with a safer, more consistent playing surface while significantly increasing the number of days the fields can be used throughout the year.
Grass fields can quickly become unplayable following heavy rain and extended periods of poor weather. Even after the rain stops, fields may need additional time to dry before they can safely reopen. These conditions can lead to canceled practices, postponed games, and compressed schedules for local leagues and tournaments.
The new turf fields will be built to withstand changing weather conditions and frequent use. Their durable and even playing surfaces will help reduce problems caused by mud, worn grass, holes, and uneven ground. Improved drainage will also allow the fields to return to use much more quickly following rainfall.
“ Silver Street Park is one of the most active recreational facilities in our city, and these improvements will allow more children, families, and athletes to enjoy it throughout the year,” Mayor Jeff Gahan said.
By increasing the number of playable days each season, the turf fields will create more time and area for practices, games, camps, and tournaments. This added capacity will benefit local families while strengthening New Albany’ s ability to host sporting events that bring players and visitors into the city.
Silver Street Park has become a major destination for recreation in New Albany, offering athletic facilities, walking areas, community programming, and activities for residents of all ages.
“ We want our parks to be places where people can stay active, build friendships, and make lasting memories,” Mayor Gahan added.“ Investing in Silver Street Park is one more step towards those goals.”
